Bethesda!

My favorite band Bethesda just had another show last Friday evening at the D.I.T. Fest. It was awesome! Unfortunately they don't have any solid recordings right now but they are fixing that this Saturday so I will put a link up soon to that. If you haven't heard of them before they are a group of 5, Shanna Eric, Dan, Jesse and Justin, who all attend my church, The Vineyard Community Church in Kent. Their blend of bells, guitars, bass, drums and horns are rhythmically delightful to your ears and accompany their creative and thoughtful lyrics well.

This afternoon, The Kairos House will begin our Fall retreat together. It will be held from Friday, today, until Sunday evening in a friend's home in Akron, OH. We will be spending most of our time eating good grub, dreaming dreams of justice and faithfulness together, studying the scriptures to better understand our call to live in community, getting to know one another in new and refreshing ways while also celebrating life together. I am super excited to begin this new journey with old and new friends and am eager to experience God in the midst of it all. Below is the definition of the Greek word Kairos. My Girlfriend typed it up for the house last year about this time.


"Kairos (καιρος) is a Greek word that has a few definitions. In ancient Greek the word means “the right moment” or “the opportune” coming from archery and weaving. New Testament Greek differed slightly from the every day ancient Greek. In New Testament Greek the word is used in contrast to chronos, another Greek word for time. Kairos often refers simply to “God’s time.” While chronos refers to the measurement of time, quantitative and chronological passing of time, kairos refers to moments, an opportune time, a qualitative notion of time. Kairos refers to changing points in the scope of chronos. Kairos comes in Jesus. Jesus is the fulfillment of all the Jews had been waiting for, the decisive moment in history, a turning point. He brings about a new kairos, a new time." (Donne)

Dumpster 'Dive of the Month!'

Two nights ago Abby, Austin, Josh and I went for a little midnight rendezvous with the local dumpsters in town. This time of year here in Kent Ohio, millions of things get thrown out because most college student leases are ending tonight, July31st, for their apartments and they can't transport everything that they have. So, in our favor, we are gifted with hundreds and hundreds of quality, barely used items such as furniture, clothing, food, and a myriad of other things. The 'Dive of the Month' is a beautiful $60 bookshelf from Ikea! Check out the find below!

Washington D.C.

Three weeks ago I visited Washington D.C. with my friends Katie and Lee-Anna. Our original plan was to go to Ocean City, NJ to visit the Ocean City Beach Project (OCBP) but those plans fell through. So what better city to visit than one filled with weeks full of free entertainment and my brother Ben and his wife Morgan! The weekend was very fun! We saw friends of both Katie and Lee-Anna and they both also got to visit with one of our friends from the OCBP. While there we visited several museums including the Holocaust Museum, American Indian Museum, and the Botanical Gardens to name a few. My brother and sister-in-law Morgan work for the William Penn House. That is also where we stayed. It is a Quaker establishment that also acts as a retreat center / hostel in D.C. It's located just 4 blocks behind the Capital building! Its a beautiful old building filled with character and comfy beds. The above pic is of the house. If you are in D.C. and need a quality cheap place to stay I would suggest it!

Purple Potato Salad!

While in D.C. visiting the American Indian Museum we came across this beautiful dish called Potato Salad. But this wasn't your ordinary potato salad. It was made from sweet potatoes and purple potatoes. Below are the two main beautiful ingredients.
